Rheinmetall secured another contract from the German government to supply more Estonian-made automated reconnaissance systems to Ukraine, the latest addition to Kyiv’s arsenal to fend off Russian aerial attacks.
The German company said Wednesday that it was working with Estonia’s DefSecIntel, which makes the SurveilSPIRE, to supply the drone defence systems as part of the order valued in the lower double-digit million euro range.
The reconnaissance systems consist of mobile surveillance towers with day and night camera equipment, autopiloted mini drones and a control system. The system has wireless links for video transmission to a mobile command post, including 4G technology and Elon Musk’s Starlink which provides high-speed broadband.
Rheinmetall started delivering the reconnaissance systems earlier this year as part of a previous order.
