Tropical Storm Bret, the second named storm of the 2023 hurricane season, is on a track to approach the Lesser Antilles on Thursday, before moving into the eastern and central Caribbean Sea Friday and Saturday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
At 10 a.m. ET Wednesday the storm was about 470 miles east of Barbados. It was moving west at 14 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds of near 60 mph, the NHC said.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect St. Lucia, while a Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Barbados, Dominica and Martinique.
The storm still has the chance to strengthen in the next day or two, although “dissipation is now shown in the official forecast by day 4, although it could occur sooner than that,” the NHC said.
